Reliance Industries has developed a new anti-odour finish which will be applied to all fabrics made under its Vimal flagship textile brand from this month.
The in-house innovation called DEO2 is thought to be a first for an Indian textile firm. It is an anti-microbial treatment that prevents the growth of fungi and bacteria on fabrics and keeps them fresh and odour free.
All 21 million metres of fabric woven at Vimal -- including worsted as well as polyester viscose suiting -- will be treated at no extra charge, the company said. It also claimed the anti-microbial properties last through 50 washes and reduces fabric staining and degradation.
Reliance Industries has applied for a patent in India for the new anti-microbial treatment, and says it intends to do the same in the international markets as well.
