Bharti Retail, a unit of Indian conglomerate Bharti Enterprises, has hired Mr Andrew Levermore from Woolworths in South Africa as its new chief operating officer. An executive with a strong international retail background, he will join the company in July and lead operations for its Easyday and Easyday Market stores across India.
The stores sell a range of products ranging from trendy fashions to home ware, electronics, toys, books, food and groceries. Mr Levermore was most recently the director of stores for Woolworths in South Africa where he was responsible for over 400 stores of varying formats across the country. Before this, he was the CEO of HyperCity Retail.
Bharti Retail recently unveiled plans to almost double the number of outlets it operates in India this year from 80 to 150 locations to secure its position in the country's rapidly-emerging retail sector. Most of the new stores will be opened under Bharti's Easyday neighbourhood format.
Bharti Retail also operates cash-and-carry chain BestPrice Modern Wholesale in partnership with US retail giant Wal-Mart.
