|
|
It was predicted that the
end of the Multi-Fibre Agreement
(MFA) would be a major challenge
for smaller economies like
Vietnam which relied heavily
on the quotas. However,
like many of the smaller
economies in Asia, Vietnam
has done very well in the
post quota era. As per WTO
figures, Vietnam’s share
in world exports of clothing
was 0.90% in the year 2000
which increased to 1.76%
in the year 2005. Though
the growth in exports of
clothing in Vietnam during
2005 was a moderate 8% as
compared to year 2003 when
it was 32% and 28% in the
year 2004, it has been able
to increase its market share
in most of the important
sourcing destinations.
